Branded Search Tracking (Google Search Console)
Branded search is one of the cleanest awareness signals: it means people are looking for you by name. This guide shows a simple way to track it monthly.
Step-by-step (simple)
Steps
- Open Google Search Console → Performance → Search results.
- Set date range (start with last 3 months).
- Open “Queries” and filter for your brand terms (brand name, common misspellings).
- Export monthly clicks and impressions for branded queries.
- Track the trend monthly (not daily).
What counts as “branded”?
Include these
- Brand name and misspellings
- Founder name (if it’s part of your brand)
- Product names unique to you
- Your domain (people often search it)
Common mistakes
Including generic category keywords
Fix: Only count queries that clearly include your brand.
Comparing week to week
Fix: Compare month to month or quarter to quarter to reduce noise.
Using only clicks
Fix: Track impressions too—impressions often lead clicks and show awareness growth.
