Homepage Branding Checklist (Above the Fold)
If your homepage feels “off,” it’s usually an above-the-fold problem: unclear headline, weak CTA, no proof, or inconsistent styling. Fix these first.
Want the deep dive? Read the Website Branding Guide.
Checklist
Above-the-fold checklist
- Logo is correct and readable (not stretched; has clear space)
- Headline says what you do + who it’s for (no vague buzzwords)
- Subhead adds “why you” (differentiator or proof)
- Primary CTA button is obvious (one main CTA, consistent color)
- Secondary CTA is helpful (learn more / view pricing / book a call)
- Proof is visible (reviews, logos, stats, guarantees)
- Hero image matches brand imagery style (tone/lighting)
- Typography hierarchy is clean (H1/H2/body)
- Spacing feels intentional (not cramped on mobile)
- Navigation labels match your positioning language
Quick copy template (if you’re stuck)
Copy template
- Headline: We help ___ (ideal customer) ___ (outcome).
- Subhead: Unlike ___ (common alternative), we ___ (differentiator/proof).
- CTA: Book / Get a quote / Start / See pricing (one primary).
Common mistakes (and fixes)
“We provide quality service” headline
Fix: Replace with outcome + audience: “HVAC repair for busy homeowners in Austin.”
Multiple competing CTAs
Fix: Pick one primary action. Make other actions secondary links.
No proof on the homepage
Fix: Add reviews, before/after, credentials, or a simple guarantee.
