Free Color Palette Generator

Generate harmonious color schemes in seconds using real color theory. Lock the shades you love, copy hex codes with one click, then turn your palette into a complete brand kit.

Tip: lock a swatch to keep it, then generate again to re-roll only the unlocked colors.

How to Build a Brand Color Palette

Strong brand palettes start with one anchor color, then layer in supporting and accent shades chosen with color theory rather than guesswork. Pick a harmony above—complementary for contrast, analogous for calm, triadic for balanced vibrancy—lock the shades you like, and re-roll the rest until the set feels right. Keep a light neutral and a dark neutral in the mix so your colors stay usable in real layouts.

Start with one anchor

Choose a single base color that fits your brand personality, then build the rest of the palette around it.

Use a harmony rule

Complementary, analogous, and triadic schemes are predictable ways to get colors that work together.

Add neutrals

A near-white and a near-black keep your palette practical for text, backgrounds, and UI.

Check contrast

Confirm text-on-background pairings are readable so your brand stays accessible.

Color Palette Generator FAQ

Is this color palette generator free?+

Yes. Generating palettes, locking colors, and copying hex codes is completely free, with no sign-up required. You only pay if you choose to turn your colors into a full brand kit with Magnt—a one-time $19 payment.

How does the color palette generator work?+

It uses real color theory. Pick a harmony type—complementary, analogous, triadic, monochromatic, or split-complementary—and the generator converts a base color to HSL, applies the matching hue and lightness rules, and returns five coordinated colors. There is no AI involved; it is pure algorithmic color math.

What is the difference between complementary and analogous palettes?+

Complementary palettes pair colors from opposite sides of the color wheel (180° apart) for high contrast and energy. Analogous palettes use colors that sit next to each other (within about 30°) for a calm, cohesive look. Triadic uses three evenly spaced hues for balanced vibrancy.

Can I lock colors I like and keep generating?+

Yes. Click the lock icon on any swatch to keep it, then press Generate again to re-roll only the unlocked colors. This lets you build a palette around one or two favorite shades.

How many colors should a brand palette have?+

Most brand palettes use one or two primary colors, a couple of supporting or accent colors, and a neutral. Five colors—the number this tool generates—give you a flexible system for logos, websites, and marketing without overwhelming your visual identity.
